Past Projects

  Location: Barclays Bank, Jewry Street, Winchester
  Client: M.A. Property Services
  Service provided: Barron and Partners provided advice and structural design for the refurbishment of the upper floors of the Barclays Bank Building in Winchester. This included the removal of load bearing walls to provide open plan office accommodation and the redesign of the steel truss roof structure in order to provided open plan office accommodation.
 

  Location: Civil and Structural Design on developments
  Client: Foreman Homes Ltd.
  Service provided: We have carried out various projects for Foreman Homes over the last two years. These normally comprise small developments of up to ten houses or small blocks of flats.
Services provided usually include the initial Geotechnical and Environmental surveys of the site followed by Civil design of the site infrastructure, including roads and underground services and structural design of the houses or other buildings.
 

  Location: Term Contract for Structural Surveys and other works
  Client: Southern Electric Contracting (SEC)
  Service provided: SEC are part of the PRiDE partnership with Interserve Ltd to maintain the MOD estate. Barron & Partners have a long term contract with SEC to carry out structural surveys of various buildings. Barron & Partners also carry out other works were required, such as emergency reinstatement of wind damaged buildings.
   

  Location: Poole High School Library extension
  Client: Poole High School
  Service provided: Following the completion of a insurance refurbishment project at the School Barron & Partners were appointed as project managers and designers for this project which comprises a two storey building in load bearing masonry with pre-cast concrete first floor and exposed glulam timber roof structure.
 

  Location: Eastoke Plaza, Hayling Island
  Client: Havant Borough Council
  Service provided: Barron & Partners were engaged by Havant Borough Council to design and project manage the construction of a new plaza on the seafront at Hayling Island. This comprised a concrete deck on piled foundations with landscaping of adjacent areas.
 

  Location: Osborne Road Car Park
  Client: Fareham Borough Council
  Service provided: Barron & Partners were engaged by Fareham Borough Council to carry out a survey of the structure of Osborne Road Multi Storey Car Park.

The report considered the current condition of the structure and provided options and costings for maintenance for the short, medium and long term use.


Subsequent to the report Barron & Partners project managed a full set of concrete repairs to extend the life of the structure by up to 5 years.
 

  Location: Anton River Wall, Andover
  Client: Test Valley Borough Council
  Service provided: Barron & Partners carried out a site investigation of the site and designed the civil engineering works, including new sheet piled retaining walls. We then obtained tenders for the works and managed the construction contract on site.
 

  Location: Thorney Island Sea Wall
  Client: Interserve Ltd
  Service provided: Barron & Partners were appointed by Interserve Ltd to carry out a survey of the sea wall at Baker Barracks, Thorney Island and make recommendations for repair and enhancement, particularly where the wall was lower than the extreme high water level.
 

  Location: Golden Hill, Romsey
  Client: A&B Homes Ltd
  Service provided: Barron & Partners carried out the structural design of this prestigious residential development. This involved substantial retaining walls to the basement of the property as the building is cut into in the side of a hill.
 

  Location: Virginia Works, Andover
  Contract value: £1,000,000
  Client: Lionel Hitchin Essential Oils
  Service provided: Refurbishment of an existing steel frame factory unit, involving the complete removal and replacement of all external cladding and the provision of a new floor slab.

Barron & Partners were responsible for the project management of the project including all necessary structural design and planning supervision work.
 


Checking of Structural Calculations Submitted for Building Regulation Approval

Barron & Partners have carried out structural design checks on Building Regulation submissions for the following Local Authorities.

General insurance and Remedial Works

Generally Barron & Partners are engaged to carry out an initial structural report and then prepare a scheme and contract specification for any necessary remedial works.

Barron & Partners then carry out all project management and contract administration, including any neccssary party wall work and planning supervision work.

Currently Barron & Partners are project managing some 10 underpinning or remedial schemes for various loss adjusters and insurance companies.

We have carried out numerous projects over the last 40 years for various loss adjusters including GAB Robins, Miller Pycraft, Crawford & Co, Cunningham Lindsey, Capita McLarens and Graham High Group.

Tangley House
Loss Adjuster: Crawford & Co

Barron & Partners were engaged to advise on the safety of the remaining structure after a devastating fire at Tangley House, Romsey.

Poole High School
Loss Adjuster: Crawford & Co

Barron & Partners were engaged to design and project manage the replacement of a fire damaged roof over a swimming pool at Poole High School. Barron & Partners handled the complete contract management including acting as planning supervisor for the project.

Warehouse, Southampton
Loss Adjuster: Crawford & Co

Barron & Partners were engaged to examine and report on damage sustained to a warehouse roof by debris from a steel container explosion.

Forest View, Southampton
Loss Adjuster – Cunningham Lindsey

Barron & Partners were engaged to design and project manage the construction of a concrete raft foundation under a terrace of houses at Forest View, Southampton. This project was unusual in that the houses were part constructed on top of the old city wall and the project required an archaeological watching brief.
